Jaime Hughes-Crosbie grew up in Kennewick, WA and attended Whitman College in Walla Walla, WA, earning the Honors at Entrance Award, the Applegate Teaching Scholarship, and being named MVP of a club rugby team her senior year. Over the next 20 years, her family moved nine times. Living in Kentucky, California, Germany, Kansas, and Washington, her husband’s retirement from the Army led to choosing Gig Harbor as home. A National Board Certified Teacher in Early and Middle Childhood Literacy, Jaime brings many years of classroom experience. Having already earned her 200-hour training, she is currently working towards completing an additional 300-hour training with yoga organization, Breathe for Change, which centers SEL at the heart of teaching practice.
GHA tradition: Learning outside and connected to place; project-based learning.
Neighborhood spot: My actual neighborhood! I enjoy walking my dogs and visiting with my neighbors. Invitation Bookshop and Teaching Toys Too are fun local places to browse.
Outdoor activity: Walking my dogs, beachcombing with Harbor Wildwatch, and stand-up paddle boarding in local waters.
Place to read: Everywhere! Under a pile of pets, in the bath, in a boat, and I also enjoy audiobooks when I drive, walk, and clean.
Childhood memory: Dressing up my cats in baby clothes and playing house, asking my dad to read Cinderella to me for the 100th time, watching the rain on the windows in the car, and playing school.
